Delightful metal-backed clasp pin of a
Shmoo from the "Li'l Abner" comic strip.
Perhaps cartoonist Al Capp's most enduring character,
the Shmoo first appeared in 1948 and quickly captivated the nation.
The Shmoo spawned an unprecedented flurry of merchandise in the
late '40s and beyond, but little Shmoo merchandise has appeared
in recent years. This 1998 pin from Kitchen Sink Press is packaged
in a 1.75" x 2.25" clear plastic gift box with color
backer art by Capp. The pin itself is 1.25" tall and remarkably
detailed. (Do not confuse this with an earlier boxed Shmoo pin
from Kitchen Sink issued in 1992. The earlier version was in
a similar box but with a blue backer card, diffferent art and
a cloissonnè pin.) It is believed that less than 2,500
of these pins were maufactured.
