THE PROFIT ---Autographed & personalized by JOEL BECK. "First edition" (black & red ink on orange cover stock). 1966.

Signed twice: "Love Joel" on the top front cover and also inscribed "To JUAR-wee and Mee MEE! Love JOEL" on the title page. The hand-lettering is done in Beck's distinctive open-style lettering with a crowquill or Rapidograph pen.

The Profit (the title parodies The Prophet by Kahil Gibran) is one of the very earliest underground comic books.

Beck's Lenny of Laredo (1965) is considered by many to be the first. Since the term "underground cartoonist" had not been invented in 1966, Beck describes himself on the cover as "America's Number One College Cartoonist," adding sardonically, "You calling me a liar?"

Condition: Very Fine+. Lower right corner is slightly dinged. The original retail price "1.00" is pencilled in the upper right corner. There is very light scuffing on the back cover and tiny smidge of dirt on the botton trim edge. Overall an excellent copy and one of the very few you will ever personalized by Beck! Provenance: Certified to be from the collection of a childhood friend of Joel Beck.
