Editor/designer Peter Poplaski always packed every issue of Steve Canyon with oodles of "extra" material. No. 21 (1988) is one of the best.

An overview of Caniff's career shows amateur art from his earliest years; his "Chic and Noodles" high school strip; Ohio State illustrations; Sigma Chi art; work at the Columbus Dispatch; the syndicated "Mister Gilfeather" (which Caniff inherited from another young cartoonist named Al Capp); "The Gay 30s"; "Dickie Dare"; and "Terry & the Pirates"; followed by the complete dailies and Sundays of "Steve Canyon" from 11/9/54 to 2/7/55.

Plus! a feature on the largely forgotten Steve Canyon TV show and another Sidebar article by Milton Caniff himself. Added bonus: several pages from close friend Noel Sickles' great "Scorchy Smith" strip, expertly retouched by Poplaski, and a Sickles/Caniff Fels-Naptha Soap Chips ad in full color.

All packed into 104 pages. Squarebound soft cover book. 8.25" x 10.75"
