WILL EISNER (1917-2005)The Building (1987) Page 37 (lot of 2)

Perhaps the most dramatic page from the Gilda and Benny chapter of The Building where the very ill Gilda refuses to leave her husband Irving: it is the last time the longtime lovers will see each other. This lot includes two Eisner originals: the inked published page, and the corresponding preliminary pencil drawing, showing how Will followed through on his first conception.

Medium/Size/Condition: The final inked page is drawn with brush, pen and ink on 11 x 14-inch Bristol board, with considerable “bleed” on the edges that would have been trimmed off in the printed book.  The blue and black pencil preliminary is drawn on lightweight white paper 6.25 x 9.5 inches. Both are in excellent condition.

    Price: $1,900 for 2-piece lot

Provenance: The Will Eisner estate is exclusively represented by the Denis Kitchen Art Agency, an affiliate of Steve Krupp’s Curio Shoppe and Gallery. This drawing is warranted to be an authentic original created by Will Eisner, and sold on behalf of his estate. Note: Image is © Will Eisner Studios, Inc.
