Frank Stack Original Art: Case of Perverted Poodle / Dr. Feelgood

FRANK STACK. "The Case of the Perverted Poodle" from "The Casebook of Dr. Feelgood" (1976).

We don't know where Frank Stack first published this darkly funny horizontal strip. We do know it was reformatted and ran three years later as part of the inside front cover of Dorman's Doggie (Rip Off Press, 1979). Stack altered some of the language (Dr. Feelgood's heavy black southern accent is modified) for the Dorman's Doggie book collection (Kitchen Sink Press, 1990, page 14). As a result, this original comes with an acetate overlay (similar to an animation cell) on which Stack made his text and minor art changes. It is currently matted with the retouched acetate overlay over the original pen & ink drawing. We have scanned both versions here. The buyer may chose to remove the overlay as he or she wishes.

Medium/size/condition/price: The primary original is drawn in pen & ink, with some minor white-out for corrections and texture, on Crescent illustration board measuring 15 inches wide by 10 inches high. There are no paste-ups. As noted in the first paragraph, Stack created an acetate overlay which comes with the original drawing. That overlay has whiteout on the reverse of the new text while the remaining acetate is clear. The top of the art is hinge-mounted with archival tape to a professionally cut mat measuring 16 inches wide x 20 inches high.
