FRANK STACK. Page 1 (of 3) of "Paddy Booshwah, Undercover Executive." (1990).

Satirist Stack never uses his real name, but it's clear that the bourgeois ex-CIA man, ex-Yankee and Texas oilman walking the streets of Houston in 1964 is none other than George Bush (the senior), and future president. Like the Ronald Reagan satire offered elsewhere in this web gallery, Stack loves to dive into political humor. Great page for a card-carrying Democrat or political activist (or a perfect gift for that Republican you know who collects underground comix and has a sense of humor).

Provenance: This original art is warranted to be from the artist's personal collection (Stack is exclusively represented by this agency). The art comes with a letter of authenticity upon request. See "bio" section for information on Frank Stack (a.k.a. Foolbert Sturgeon), one of the very earliest and most important of the underground cartoonists.

Medium/size/condition/price: Drawn in pen & ink, with some minor white-out for corrections and texture, on Bristol board measuring 11 1/2 inches wide by 14 1/2 inches high. The title, credits and mechanical lettering in panel two are paste-ups. The top of the art is hinge-mounted with archival tape to a professionally cut mat measuring 16 inches wide x 20 inches high.
