Will Eisner. Large unpublished Spirit art, circa 1942.

This is an unprecedented opportunity to own a true rarity: an unpublished original Spirit drawing from World War II.  Based on the inscription, Eisner most likely did the piece for a sergeant he knew either at Fort Dix or at the Pentagon while he was a warrant officer during the war.  From Ebony's comment, it was certainly intended to be hung in a work place, at least in part as a morale booster.  When one looks at the warmth projected by the smiling faces of the Spirit and Ebony, it is hard to imagine it not achieving it's intended goal.

While Eisner took care to keep most of his original art after the war, Spirit artwork done by Eisner before or during the war is very hard to come by (his business partner “Busy” Arnold destroyed the art inventory while Will was in the service).  This is an exceptional piece for any fan who would want something for their collection that is not only distinctive, but truly unique.

Size 12 inches by 16.75 inches on heavy Bristol board. Authenticity and provenance guaranteed.
