"BEYOND RECOGNITION" STONE LITHOGRAPH by CHARLES BURNS. Edition of 100.

By now Charles Burns is recognized in both the comics and the fine art fields. Comics fans know him for his long-running Black Hole series from Kitchen Sink Press and Fantagraphics, Curse of the Molemen, Blood Club and contributions to such underground comix as Death Rattle, Dope Comix and Freak Show. The disturbing image of an insect-man in underwear, tied to a tree and threatened by a snake is straight out of horror comics tradition, with a dash of Freud. But Burns has been in numerous galleries and exhibits over the years and is respected and accepted in the fine art community. Perhaps only cartoonists R. Crumb and Robert Williams share that distinction.

In 1992 Burns produced this stone lithograph, called "Beyond Recognition." A stone litho is produced by drawing with a lithographic crayon directly on to a specially prepared large flat stone, from which only limited reproductions can be pulled. This image was printed by hand directly onto Rives BFK white 100% rag paper. After only 100 lithos were pulled, then signed & numbered by Burns, the stone image was "effaced" (destroyed) making further editions impossible.

The size of the image is 15 inches x 21 inches. The trim size of the paper is 19" x 25". Exceptionally rare and almost impossible to find on the market. Shipped flat with plenty of protective cardboard.
