Will Eisner’s Incredible Facts, Amazing Statistics and Monumental Trivia. Page 17 (1974)

“Hangover!” The agony of the morning after! The centerpiece of this page on alcohol consumption from Will Eisner’s Incredible Facts, Amazing Statistics and Monumental Trivia is an exquisitely rendered man struggling with a hangover so profound you can practically smell the vapor coming off the page. Careful shading and stippling details capture the subject’s bloodshot eyes, severe cottonmouth, dried-out skin, and agonizing headache offering a sublime representation of Will’s expressive anatomy approach.

Inspired by underground comix, newsstand humor magazines and book collections of humor cartoons Eisner wrote, illustrated and published a series of humor publications prior to developing the Graphic Novel format in 1978. This page is from the [first?] entry in that series, which would eventually become known as "Gleeful Guides."

Size/Medium/Condition: Pen and ink with collage elements. The original on clear vellum measures 8 by 9.5 inches. Mounted on heavy 10 x 13-inch illustration board, with a protective vellum overlay taped onto the board. Noticable discoloration on stats and rubber cement, with some correction fluid in word balloons. The linework is clean and uncompromised. Excellent Condition.

Provenance: The Will Eisner Estate is exclusively represented by the Denis Kitchen Art Agency, an affiliate of Steve Krupp’s Curio Shoppe and Gallery. This drawing is warranted to be an authentic original created by Will Eisner, and sold on behalf of his estate. Note: Image is © Will Eisner Studios, Inc.
