Unusual daily strip format---the first we've seen for
Beck. Likely not
published in the underground comix he was best known for.
Beck was a
true pioneer whose published comix work pre-dates R.
Crumb's ZAP and
nearly every other artist in the field.
Medium: Pen & Ink on Bristol board. Dimensions:
4 1/2 inches (but 1 1/2" on left margin is folded over,
image area). Signed and dated 1984 on reverse (the date
he sold and personalized the art), but the actual creation
Condition: Folded on left as noted above, outside image
area. Small 1 1/2 inch tear in lower part of 2nd panel and
tear in lower part of final panel. Some discoloration in
Trimmed tight to art edge on far right. Overall fair
condition but not
unusual for Beck art (a classic starving cartoonist, he
lived in a
garret for many years).
Provenance: From the collection of a friend of Beck's in
California. A one-owner original.
