183. Cadillacs & Dinosaurs:
Shivat (1993). No. 7 in a set
of 7 C&D buttons.
Xenozoic / C&D
creator Mark Schultz created many new terms in his illustrated
futuristic saga. "Shivat" is one of the terms used
by City in the Sea residents for dinosaurs. "Slither"
is yet another. Dinosaurs are the dominant life force in this
future Earth. Rampaging shivats threaten the fragile farms and
homesteads outlying the City in the Sea. But their "spiritual"
leader Jack Tenrec (see button #179) refuses to allow
shivats to be killed, creating tensions in the emerging society
and pitting his loyalist Mechanics against corrupt Governor
Scharnhorst, an otherwise unattractive leader who favors
the pragmatic killing of dinosaurs.
If you aren't already a fan of this intriguing
world, you owe it to yourself to acquire the fourteen Kitchen
Sink Press back issues, the three KSP book collections and/or
the 2-volume Xenozoic reprints from Dark Horse Comics.
We also have other Schultz and Xenozoic items online
(use search bar for quick links).
This button series, designed by Ray
Fehrenbach, was among the items (including boxed candy bars)
created by Kitchen Sink Press itself shortly before it ended
its Wisconsin phase, moved to Massachusetts and merged with Tundra
Publishing.
1.25 inch diameter. $3.00
One note, for serious button collectors,
you may want to read the KSP
BUTTON TEXT which explains the numbering systems for
identifying the various buttons produced over the last 30 years,
or see the COMPLETE
KSP BUTTON LIST. The list is VERY long, so be patient
while it loads.
