THE MARAT / SADE JOURNALS by BARRON STOREY (1993).
Storey (1940-
) is a celebrated illustrator, teacher, musician and poet whose
work has influenced many artists in the comics genre, most notably
Bill Sinkiewicz and Dave McKean. This remarkable
hardcover book is reproduced from several of Storey's illustrated
journals. Loosely based on Jean-Paul Marat from the French
Revolution and the Marquis de Sade, from the Peter
Weiss play. And, while full of richly textured images, there
is no clear narrative. Barron Storey himself describes
the contents as "the personal journals of the aging artist...
The possibility that some value may be
found in the work and that the value will outweigh the overtly
personal content [is the] rationale." Beautiful leatherette
binding, silver foil spine and cover, textured end papers and
color throughout. 120 pages.
Hardbound. Published
by Tundra, at the end of its existence, in a very limited
edition. Kevin Eastman spared no cost. First and only
printing. Virtually impossible to find. . Condition: the
small handfull of copies we have left in stock have some "slight"
imperfections to the cover. There are some small light scratches
and scuffs and would be considered "near mint" but
not completely perfect.
