Oddball Comics Trading Cards - 36 card set NO box (1993).

Cartoonist Scott Shaw has carved a unique niche as the world's foremost expert on "oddball" comic books. His Oddball Comics slide shows at the annual San Diego Comic Cons are among the hug show's best-attended events, often to standing-room-only crowds. Shaw also hosts a popular Oddball Comics website with weekly updates. What are "oddball" comics? They are sometimes comics that defy easy categorization, feature grotesque art styles or, sometimes, are common genre comics but with particularly bizarre cover themes.

A quick review of some covers in this card set explain everything... Space Western (unusual cross-category), All-Negro Comics ('40s race theme), The Bouncer (intentional or unintentional gay look?), Criminals On the Run (thug stopped cold by a fish to the face!), Calling All Boys (it wasn't supposed to be funny when they first put J. Edgar Hoover on the cover), Muggsy Mouse (featuring cute cannibal mice), and the always popular Ricky and Debbie in Sardineland. Comic books like these are inherently funny, but Shaw adds hilarious observations and droll historic context on the card backs.

This was originally a 36-card boxed set published by Kitchen Sink Press in 1993. The boxed sets are long gone. What we are selling here is a complete set of all 36 original cards in NM/mint condition, minus the box. For those of you who like to organize your cards in pocket pages anyway, the box is extraneous. (The boxed sets go for $25 and up at conventions. )

This full set is a bargain at just $8.95
