Price: $600.00

WILL EISNER (1917-2005) • ”Captain Ahab” (2003)
Will Eisner
adapted Herman
Melville’s classic novel Moby Dick
both for a younger reader’s graphic novel and for a
never finished public television adaptation. The pencil
illustration shown here was probably related to one of
those projects. The blank bar at the bottom suggests a
book plate, possibly for a European publisher, but we do
not know if an inked version was ever published. It is
nonetheless a superb portrait of Captain Ahab,
the obsessed peg-legged whaler.
Medium/Size/Condition:
The original drawing is 8.5 x 11 on a middleweight
white paper, covered by a protective sheet of vellum
taped at the top. It is signed and
dated ‘03.
Provenance:
The Will Eisner estate is exclusively represented by the
Denis Kitchen Art Agency, an affiliate of Steve Krupp’s
Curio Shoppe and Gallery. This drawing is warranted to
be an authentic original created by Will Eisner, and
sold on behalf of his estate. Note: Image is © Will
