WILL EISNER
(1917-2005) • Original Spirit art
June
10, 1951. Page 6 from “Wanchu.”
Unlike Bruce
Wayne, who can hop in the Batplane after an overseas
adventure, the Spirit has to struggle to get home. In this
tale, our hero finds himself between two warring groups
while trying to buy a horse to speed him on his way.
The only thing the two factions have in common is that
each side is led by a gorgeous woman who finds the Spirit
irresistible, which leads to the question of why he wants
to leave.
This page has
several attractive features. The Spirit is featured
prominently in several panels. It has lots of action
and there's a beautiful femme fatale in the center
panel. It should be noted that another page from the
same story has been offered by a prominent comic art
dealer for $3,700.00. Bargain priced from us.
Medium/Size/Condition: Brush,
pen,
and ink on Bristol board measuring 15 x 22 inches
(38.1 x 52.8 cm). Some minor white-out. Excellent
condition.
Further reference: Much
other Eisner art, plus out-of-print graphic novels,
Spirit comic books and magazines,
signed serigraphs,
his Famous
Cartoonist
Button, and numerous other
Eisner-related items are accessible from our sister

Krupp’s
Curio
Shoppe. Just type his name (or The
Spirit) into our search bar.
