Original comic book art
“Sweet Pooch” from Dorman’s Doggie”
(1979)
Dorman’s
Doggie, in our humble opinion, is one of the
funniest comic books ever. Anyone who has owned
or seen a friend’s neurotic small dog will
deeply relate to the autobiographical D.D.
stories that ran in this and other Rip Off Press
comics, later collected by Kitchen Sink Press
(this is page 52 in that collection). Among the
poor poodle’s unsavory characteristics is his
over-the-top bad breath. These are the kind of
comics you laugh out loud at because you’ve been
there.
Medium/Size/Condition: Pen and ink on
heavy Crescent illustration board measuring 15
inches wide x 10 inches high. Top edge has some
glue residue, partly covered by white tape, very
little of which is in the image area. Otherwise
excellent condition.
Further reference: Most
comix historians regard Frank Stack as the very
first underground cartoonist (his
earliest Jesus comics way pre-date R. Crumb or
Gilbert Shelton).
Additional Stack art is available. Contact us
for further details. Additionally, Stack items
(out of print books and postcards) can be found in Steve
Krupp’s Curio Shoppe. Just type Frank Stack in
our search bar.
