was adamant that at least minimal knowledge of muscular anatomy
was critical to an understanding of expressive anatomy, so the 2nd
chapter of his book literally adds flesh to the skeletons in preceding
pages. A comparison of this sharply detailed original with the
published version shows that some considerable subtlety in shading was
lost in the reduction and reproduction.
