FRANK STACK. "Ronald Reagan's History
Class" (1984).
Trenchant political satire created by Stack
during the final year of Ronald Reagan's first term as president.
The free world's leader conducts a quick history and civics lesson,
dressed in cowboy regalia. Stack's reluctant prediction in the
very last panel caption came true, as Reagan was re-elected
to another four years in office. Though drawn in this horizontal
format, it was reformatted and run as a standard size page as
the inside back cover of Feelgood Funnies #2 (Rip Off
Press). Signed and dated by Stack in opening panel.
Provenance:
This original art is warranted to be from the artist's personal
collection (Stack is exclusively represented by this agency).
Art comes with a letter of authenticity upon request. See "bio"
section for information on Frank
Stack (a.k.a. Foolbert Sturgeon), one of the earliest
and most important of the underground cartoonists.
Size/medium/condition/price: Drawn in pen and ink on a lightweight illustration
paper measuring 14 inches wide by 10 inches high. Artist's pencil
notations and a spelling correction in margin outside inked and
matted area. One inch scissor cut in lower left, outside image/matted
area. Top of art is hinge-mounted with archival tape to professionally
cut mat measuring 20 inches wide x 16 inches high. Slight scuffing
on upper right of mat but original art itself is excellent other
than noted.
$550.
