Price: $1,850.00
Sold Art
PETER POPLASKI. The
Atomic Age Superman: 1956-1959
(IDW Publ., 2016)
Back cover (Lot of 2, with bonus
art). Three interlinked vignettes showing the
normally invulnerable hero in unthinkable situations:
Superman powerless, Superman shot, and Superman
imprisoned! On the reverse side is an art bonus: a fully
inked Superman + penciled logo from an unfinished Atomic
Age Superman cover! $1,850
Medium/Size/Condition: India
ink on heavy Bristol board measuring 15” wide x 22” high
(38.1 x 55.9 cm). Signed and dated (2016) with creation
history on reverse side. There are red ink lines on
Superman to indicate to the colorist where shading
begins and ends. The saucer pilots, police officer and
gun blast have cut marks where Poplaski removed black
ink with a blade and some White-Out has been applied. He
same applies to potions of the atomic ring imprisoning
Superman and a few other tiny areas. The lot includes
Poplaski’s color guide: color pencils on a photocopy
(two pieces of papers taped together) of the finished
art, close to the same size as the original. Both items
are in excellent condition, other than the small cuts
and White-Out noted.
