Will
Eisner’s Incredible Facts, Amazing Statistics and
Monumental Trivia. Page 17 (1974)
“Hangover!” The
agony of the morning after! The centerpiece of this page
on alcohol consumption from Will Eisner’s Incredible
Facts, Amazing Statistics and Monumental Trivia is
an exquisitely rendered man struggling with a hangover
so profound you can practically smell the vapor coming
off the page. Careful shading and stippling details
capture the subject’s bloodshot eyes, severe
cottonmouth, dried-out skin, and agonizing headache
offering a sublime representation of Will’s expressive
anatomy approach.
Inspired by
underground comix, newsstand humor magazines and book
collections of humor cartoons Eisner wrote, illustrated
and published a series of humor publications prior to
developing the Graphic Novel format in 1978. This page
is from the [first?] entry in that series, which would
eventually become known as "Gleeful Guides."
