FRANK STACK (1937-)
a.k.a. Foolbert Sturgeon • Original comic
book art
“Sir Charles Shortshot” (from Dirty Diana,
date unknown)
A somewhat jarring second panel, but done with no
intention of gratuity, and rendered with classic Frank
Stack cross-hatching and dialogue. Produced as part of
Chapter 8 from a never-published story called “Dirty
Diana.”
Medium/Size/Condition: Pen and ink on Bristol
board measuring 12 inches wide x 9.25 inches high. The
lower portion of the first panel is a paste-over, and
some white-out (partly to improve the texture of the
shotgun blast), otherwise excellent condition.
Further reference: Most
comix historians regard Frank Stack as the very
first underground cartoonist (his
earliest Jesus comics way pre-date R. Crumb or
Gilbert Shelton).
Additional Stack art is available. Contact us
for further details. Additionally, Stack items
(out of print books and postcards) can be found in Steve
Krupp’s Curio Shoppe. Just type Frank Stack in
our search bar.
Provenance: Frank Stack is exclusively
represented by the Denis Kitchen Art Agency, an
affiliate of Steve Krupp’s Curio Shoppe and Gallery.
This drawing is warranted to be an authentic original
