WILL
EISNER GRAPHIC NOVEL ORIGINAL ART
Title/date/description: WILL EISNER. TO
THE HEART OF THE STORM (1991)
Page 190.
In the
early stages of World War II Eisner is reading a
newspaper account of the war’s escalation under an
elevated train in New York City when he literally
bumps into his childhood friend Buck, the one he once
built a boat with. They haven’t seen each other in
years and they react with mutual glee.
The moment proves anticlimactic. It doesn’t go well in
subsequent pages when Will quickly realizes his one
time best friend” has become a full-on anti-Semite in
this overtly autobiographical and celebrated graphic
novel. A strong page that captures Eisner’s trademark
evocation of city settings and human emotion.
Size/medium/condition: 11 x 14
inches (28 x 35.6 cm). Ink on Bristol
board with grease pencil gray shading. Excellent
condition.
Provenance:
Warranted to be from the Will
Eisner estate, which this agency exclusively
represents.
