WILL
EISNER
(1917-2005) •
The Building
(1987) Page
31 (lot of 2)
Gilda and Benny,
from Will Eisner’s The Building,
suddenly become paranoid after a tryst. This lot
includes two Eisner
originals: the inked published page, and the
corresponding preliminary pencil drawing, showing how
Will followed through on his first conception.
Medium/Size/Condition:
The final inked page is drawn with brush, pen and
ink on 11 x 14-inch Bristol board, with considerable
“bleed” on the edges that would have been trimmed off
in the printed book.
The blue and black pencil preliminary is drawn
on lightweight white paper 6.25 x 9.5 inches. Note
that Eisner’s pencil indicates he was going to head
the page, “Soon it became more noticeable,” but
decided such lettering would be superfluous in the
final rendering. Both originals are in excellent
condition.
Price: $1,500 for the
2-piece lot
Provenance:
The Will Eisner estate is exclusively represented by
the Denis Kitchen Art Agency, an affiliate of Steve
Krupp’s Curio Shoppe and Gallery. This drawing is
warranted to be an authentic original created by Will
Eisner, and sold on behalf of his estate. Note: Image
