119. Society, You Corpulent
Swine!
(1983). Bix,
the goateed beatnik poet from Jay Lynch and Gary Whitney's
alternative comic strip/comic book "Phoebe and the Pigeon
People," is featured in his second Kitchen Sink button
(see also #108). Bix (named after jazz musician Bix Beiderbecke)
was wont to rant and this catchy phrase was his most memorable
(and often repeated). Bombastic Bix may not seem to be an alter
ego to his notably reserved creator, but there is probably more
than a little Jay Lynch (one of the underground cartoonists with
genuine beatnik roots) in this character. This very same graphic,
by the way, appeared on a limited edition silk necktie (ironically
the last place you'd expect to find an angry beatnik poet). For
the rest of the Phoebe cast, see buttons #107 through
112. 2.25 inch diameter. $2.50.
One note, for serious button collectors,
you may want to read the KSP
BUTTON TEXT which explains the numbering systems for
identifying the various buttons produced over the last 30 years,
or see the COMPLETE
KSP BUTTON LIST. The list is VERY long, so be patient
while it loads.
