Will Eisner: The Centennial Celebraton: 1917-2017

    Hardcover. Illustrated.
    (Kitchen Sink Books).

This profusely-illustrated book is based on two prestigious and simultaneous exhibitions held during the centennial year (1917-2017) of Eisner’s birth. One exhibit, curated by Denis Kitchen and John Lind, hung at the Society of Illustrators in New York City, while the second, curated by Denis Kitchen and Jean-Pierre Mercier, filled the Musée de la Bande Dessinée in Angoulême, France for nine months.

The popular exhibits featured Eisner’s earliest etchings, his most famous work, and the best representative examples from his Spirit period, pre-Spirit Eisner/Eisner shop, World War II poster art, and his graphic novel period, along with rarely seen examples from commercial and illustration work in both black & white and color.

All the art in WECC were scanned from the originals by Lind, a notorious perfectionist, so you will find no better reproductions of Eisner’s work. Also included are select photos of Eisner at work, jams, and before-and-after pencils and inks. Introductory texts by Mercier, Kitchen, Lind, comics historian Paul Gravett, and family member Nancy Gropper.

All text and descriptions are in twin columns of English and French. This book (ironically enough) received an Eisner Award nomination in 2018 for Best Design.

    Large format 10.25 x 14.25 inches (26 x 36.2 cm) and 176 pages in Hardcover.

You will not find a better book about Eisner’s art, nor better reproduction. Brand-new publisher’s copy.
