    177. Cadillacs & Dinosaurs (1993).

Though not individually numbered like the others, this "generic" C&D image is No. 1 in the set of 7 buttons. Artist/writer Mark Schultz created his award-winning Xenozoic Tales saga in 1986 when a short story debuted in Death Rattle Vol. 2, #8. Schultz's story of a future society in which a small number of humans cling to 20th century technology while dinosaurs are the dominant life form, was brilliantly drawn and conceived. It became a strong cult hit.

In 1989 the Death Rattle story and first four issues of Xenozoic Tales were collected under the title Cadillacs & Dinosaurs, coined by publisher Denis Kitchen to neatly summarize the series for marketing purposes. When Nelvana acquired animation rights in 1992 and developed the property, Cadillacs & Dinosaurs was the title chosen for the fall-winter 1993-94 children's series that appeared on CBS-TV Saturday mornings. Thirteen half-hour episodes were aired, but the television series was not renewed (it lost the ratings battle against Fox's improbably successful Power Rangers). But a spate of C&D merchandise was nonetheless created during this media-driven period by toymaker Tyco and around twenty-five other licensees.

This button series, designed by Ray Fehrenbach, was among the items (including boxed candy bars) created by Kitchen Sink Press itself shortly before it ended its Wisconsin phase, moved to Massachusetts and merged with Tundra Publishing.

    1.25 inch diameter. $3.00

One note, for serious button collectors, you may want to read the KSP BUTTON TEXT which explains the numbering systems for identifying the various buttons produced over the last 30 years, or see the COMPLETE KSP BUTTON LIST. The list is VERY long, so be patient while it loads.
