ZAP No. 1 by
R. Crumb (1967) (3rd
printing).
Published by Apex Novelties, this
is the all Robert Crumb underground comic that
started it all! It includes "Whiteman," "Ultra
Super Modernistic Comics," the "Kitchen Kut-Outs"
centerfold, "Mr. Natural Visits the City," "Just
Us Kids!!" and the very first appearance of the eventually
ubiquitous "Keep on Truckin'..." (We also have R.
Crumb's hand-signed ZAP # 1 Cover Serigraph elsewhere in
this web store.)
The Zap #1 printing offered here
is certainly not as scarce or valuable as the currently out of
sight prices of earlier printings. A CGC 8.5 VF+ copy of the
Charles Plymell first printing sold for $8,000 in 2003.
A VG/Fine (CGC 5.0) copy was sold in 2002 by a New York dealer
for $5,500 while a CGC 6.5 Fine condition first printing
sold in 2001 for $4,000. Some dealers and collectors are
already calling the first printing of Zap the Action
#1 of undergrounds with no price ceiling going forward.
While the Plymell (1st) and Donohue
(2nd printing) are nearly impossible to find in any condition,
and will cost a small fortune if you do, we have a few truly
near mint/mint copies (you will not find better!) of the still
quite scarce 3rd
printing at a very affordable price
of $125
