MR. NATURAL No. 3
by R. Crumb (10th
printing).
In 1976 and 1977 underground cartoonist
Robert Crumb created an ongoing "Mr. Natural"
strip for The Village Voice, a weekly New York newspaper
with hip roots. In the lengthy single adventure our favorite
fly-by-night guru deals with fans, fights the devil, goes crazy,
and is committed to an insane asylum by devotees Flakey Foont
and Ruth Schwartz. The strip ends as two obnoxious ultra-hip
Voice reporters press Foont and Schwartz
for lurid details.
Crumb
was clearly tired of Mr. Natural and after literally locking
him away in this comic book he went quite a few years without
doing anything new with "the Natch."
Mr.
NaturaL No. 3 is a thicker-than-normal underground
comic, with 40 pages of "guts" instead of the standard
32 and, like most KSP comix, it is printed on white paper,
not newsprint. Kitchen Sink Press first collected the
material into Mr. Natural No. 3 in 1977.
The edition offered here is the 10th
and last printing (February 1998). NM/Mint. Its cover price
in 1998 was $3.50 and we still offer it here for
just $3.50.
