Howard Cruse is unfairly typecast as America's foremost Gay cartoonist. He is, in fact, one of America's foremost cartoonists, period. But Cruse does have a special insight and unique sense of humor when it comes to the gay experience, and, in our opinion, it is best represented by his "Wendel" strips. These were originally serialized in The Advocate, then collected by Kitchen Sink Press in this 1990 oversize 8.5 x 11" comic book with heavy cardstock cover. You don't have to be gay to appreciate Wendel Comix. In fact, we think any straight comics fan will laugh out loud and possibly even get teary-eyed reading the adventures of Wendel, Ollie, Sterno and the other very human and compelling characters. NM
