FRANK STACK (1937-) a.k.a. Foolbert
Sturgeon • Original comic book art
“Frank Crankcase’s Time Machine” page 2 of 5 (1979)
Frank
Crankcase is without question another alter ego for
cartoonist Frank Stack. In the preceding page
Crankcase contemplates which decade of the century is
the least repulsive in this funny stripe
presciently notes that "The Eighties are going to be
even worse!" Here the mechanically challenged
character learns how to assemble the time machine, but
then faces “how to operate the damn thing.”
Medium/Size/Condition: Pen and ink on light
Bristol board measuring 11 inches wide x 14 inches
high. Excellent condition.
Further reference: Most
comix historians regard Frank Stack as the very
first underground cartoonist (his
earliest Jesus comics way pre-date R. Crumb or
Gilbert Shelton).
Additional Stack art is available. Contact us
for further details. Additionally, Stack items
(out of print books and postcards) can be found in Steve
Krupp’s Curio Shoppe. Just type Frank Stack in
our search bar.
Provenance: Frank Stack is exclusively
represented by the Denis Kitchen Art Agency, an
affiliate of Steve Krupp’s Curio Shoppe and Gallery.
This drawing is warranted to be an authentic original
created by Frank Stack. Note: Image is © Frank Stack.
