WILL EISNER • Original cover
art (Lot of 2)
“Graphic Storytelling cover” (1996)
Will Eisner cover art is increasingly difficult to
find. This example is from Will’s second of three
instructional books, Graphic Storytelling, which he
originally self-published under his Poorhouse Press
imprint in 1996. Eisner used cave people, possibly
Neanderthals, to underscore the fact that storytelling
goes very deep into the human past, and that drawings
on cave walls may be our earliest evidence of telling
stories with pictures, known today as comics. In this
example, the cave wall panels tell the story of a
successful hunt.
Medium/Size/Condition: Brush and ink on
slightly irregular Bristol board measuring close to 5
x 7 inches. Excellent condition. The original drawing
comes with a copy of the actual book.
Further reference: Much other Eisner art, plus
out-of-print graphic novels, Spirit comic books and
magazines, signed serigraphs, his Famous Cartoonist
Button, and numerous other Eisner-related items are
accessible from Steve
Krupp’s Curio Shoppe.
Provenance: The Will Eisner estate is
exclusively represented by the Denis Kitchen Art
Agency, an affiliate of Steve Krupp’s Curio Shoppe and
Gallery. This drawing is warranted to be an authentic
original created by Will Eisner, and sold on behalf of
his estate. |
