WILL EISNER
(1917-2005) • Original Spirit art
“Cache McStash,” page 5” (1948)
Will Eisner was assisted in places
on “Cache McStash” (September 12, 1948) by
Andre LeBlanc. But Eisner’s
distinctive inking and feathering
dominates this action-packed page. The
close-up faces in the 4th panel showcase
Eisner’s trademark feathering and
chiaroscuro shading in particular.
Eisner’s sense of humor is never far from
the surface, even in dramatic scenes, and
the two crooks beating each other to death
with shovels are a perfect example, with
the added “Boyngg” sound effects. No
Spirit himself, but a great atmospheric Spirit
page.
Medium/Size/Condition: Brush, pen
and ink on Bristol board measuring 16.5
inches wide x 22.5 inches high. White tape
on the very top and bottom is
long-missing. One tiny paste-up correction
in 4th panel balloon. Excellent condition.
Further reference: Much
other Eisner art, plus out-of-print graphic novels,
