BATMAN: THE DAILIES 1944-1945, Volume
2 (1990)
by Bob Kane, Charles Paris, Jack Burnley,
Al Schwartz and Jack Schiff.
This second of three volumes collects,
for the first and only time, the earliest Batman newspaper strips.
Introduction by Bob Kane, who, ironically, decries fellow "crude
and amateurish" comic book artists. The meaningful text
is provided by Batman historian Joe Desris. Will Eisner
fans will be interested in the sidebar about his days heading
the Bell-McClure Syndicate. The design and the drop-dead gorgeous
covers and coloring were created by Peter Poplaski. Co-published
in 1990 by Kitchen Sink Press (which did the work) and DC Comics
(which owns Batman). Long out of print. 11" x 8.5"
Softcover book. 192 pages. Mint/Near Mint
