MALE CALL by Milton Caniff. (1987). Limited hardcover edition with tip-in plate.

Male Call was a special newspaper strip created by master cartoonist Milton Caniff for miltary newspapers only. This was the first and only complete collection of the sexy war time strip (1942-46) featuring Miss Lace. It includes the previously unpublished strips rejected (censored) by the U.S. Army. Introduction by Bill Mauldin, creator of the popular wartime "Willie and Joe" cartoons and later a Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist. Extensive additional introductory text by Caniff himself, as well as army war cartoons by Al Capp (Li'l Abner) and George Baker (Sad Sack), puts this unique strip in perspective.

This truly complete collection also includes all of the 1942-43 "Terry and the Pirates" Burma strips that Caniff created especially for G.I.'s, and which predated Miss Lace/Male Call. Meticulously edited and designed by Peter Poplaski. This exquisite collection was published in 1987 by Kitchen Sink Press. 11" x 8.75". 120 pages.

This Hardcover edition was limited to only 1,000 copies and just 25 Artist's Proofs (A/P). This is an A/P from the publisher's private collection. Includes special tip-in plate. Mint/Near Mint.
