FEVER DREAMS by
Richard Corben (1972). 1st printing.
Now A Motion Picture Starring Patton Oswalt!! The cover story, "To Meet the Faces
You Meet," has been adapted as the movie MEAD, premiering in summer 2022. Written by frequent Corben collaborator
Jan Strnad this is one of the pair's true classics. Friz,
an interstellar human outlaw, floats alone in a giant robot spacecraft
with only Mead, the ship's cybernetic psychic for company.
Mead conjures real-looking solid illusions, including
female companionship, to amuse the jaded Friz, while
Friz himself eludes ships in pursuit by projecting his own
powerful mental illusions. This early underground comix science
fiction cross-over was very popular, going through several printings.
The other portion of the comic is "The Unicorn Quest,"
also written by Strnad but drawn by John Adkins Richardson.
Fabulous front cover by Corben (later printings are generally
not as vivid as this initial printing).
Kitchen Sink Press
published. 1st printing (July 1972). NM/Mint.
