BOP No. 1 (1982).
Billed as "America's First & Only
Music Comix Magazine," BOP never made it to a second
issue. Despite a terrific dancing Wurlitzers cover by John
(Garbage Pail Kids) Pound, the issue sold miserably.
The music-themed comics were by Alex Toth, Harvey Pekar, Bill
Fugate, Trina Robbins, Joe Schwind, Bob Laughlin, Marc Hempel,
Doug Erb and Rick Geary. Publisher Denis Kitchen
was unhappy with editor Cat Yronwode and her editorial
choices and promptly killed the publication. Five years later,
Yronwode and BOP record reviewer and Eclipse Comics co-founder
Dean Mullaney married.
Nearly all of the thousands of unsold issues of BOP were
literally taken to a Wisconsin landfill site in the mid '80s,
but we still have a few copies in nice shape. 56 page magazine.
